I. Topic: Math Measurements with non-standard
II. Objectives/Standards:
TSWBAT find the measurements of various objects using non-standard measuring objects. This must be completed to teacher satisfaction.
Standard - CC.2.4.1.A.1
Order lengths and measure them both indirectly and by repeating length units.
Standard - CC.2.4.K.A.1
Describe and compare attributes of length.
III. Teaching Procedures:
1. Anticipatory set:
Read Madeline Book to the students
2. Guided practice:
Have students stand up in two straight lines. Have students start at one end of the classroom. By then having each end student get out of line and move to the front position, measure how many students are needed to fill the length of the classroom.
3. Independent practice:
Give students different images that would be found around France. Using cut outs of the “little girls,” that are discussed in the Madeline story, have the students measure each of the given items.
For example: give students an image of the Eiffel Tower and have them measure the height of the tower using the cut out images of the “little girls.”

4. Close: Have student stand in front of the caterpillar poster and practice counting by two’s.
IV. Assessment:
Formative assessment of the students will be noted based on student responses and participation
Summative assessment intendent worksheets will be collected and check for skill development and completion.
V. Materials:
1. Madeline story book
2. French landmark/symbols sheets
3. Cut outs of little girls for the usage of measuring
15 students – 8 per student = 120 girls needed
